I totally enjoyed this like every other of your articles. I am inspired by this man. He sounds original and I've always looked at him from afar as an example for would-be media-preneurs. Remember I commented on your last article that media owners must find a way to make the 'business' angle of the profession work for them. This man has done it.
I love the fact that he acknowledged the place of strategy (being unique) and evolving. Many 'giant' Nigerian media, especially in print, almost collapsed because of Covid-19 and he's Momodu strutting through like a conqueror. I wish him more success.
This is a really good content!. So much to learn. The Nigerian media business has a lot to learn and do to survive. We need to understand that media is also a business and make it happen above the odds!. Great write up David!
You’re right. I really think it’s time we paid more attention to how we think about business models and processes of Nigerian media companies. A lot of it boils down to how open we are about things we don’t know.
I don’t think it’s about being open. Many are afraid. Not afraid of what people might say per say but afraid of a bigger loss. Business is a big risk and too many are afraid to take that risk. Many see journalism or the media at large as a place of power to say what many can’t say(which honestly many do not anymore for various reasons) or Just for the name. If one or more test the unexplored Areas and SURVIVE, you’ll be amazed the dominos of media outlets that’s would follow.
You've made very good points. Although I should be clearer, I'm referring to journalists already running/launching new media platforms and the limitations of our understanding of business. I agree that the playing field is risky, but a lot of our limitations come from the things we don't know and aren't even open to learning.
This was such an enjoyable read and for someone who isn’t even well acquainted with the media industry, I learnt a thing or two after reading this.
Great essay and writing - per usual. 👏🏽
Thank you. I’m glad you found it accessible 😊
